How do I transfer a “non-transferable” airline ticket to another passenger?
M asked:
I’d like to transfer a ticket that I bought for one person to someone else because the first person can’t go anymore. The airline (Delta) tells me that the ticket is non-transferable and that I can cancel and take a credit. The problem is that the flight is overbooked, so I can’t even buy another ticket on the same flight. Also, the credit goes to the ticketed passenger, not me (who paid for the ticket).

I’m looking for some exception to this rule or some loophole that I can exploit. All I want to do is get someone else’s name on the ticket that I paid for so that we can travel together. How best to accomplish this? Thanks.

You would have to borrow the person’s name the ticket is in driver’s license, that is the only way! They cheat us coz you have to have the I.D. match the name on the ticket,so ***** em and get their license so your friend can go!

There are no exceptions to this rule. The only thing that can be done is to have the ticket refunded as credit. I do find it hard however to see any point in applying the credit to the ticketed passenger and by rights it should be your credit to use for whomever you want. I think you could challenge that ruling.
There are no legal ways to loophole this issue. However if this is an e-ticket and Delta have self check in then there is the possibility. This other person can check themselves in using a kiosk or online check in, but obviously they will need to enter the details of the other person. I am not sure if Delta check ID when boarding the plane but if they don’t then this would be a very simple task to complete. HOWEVER IT IS NOT LEGAL. The ruling about non transferability is a redundant one these days however it is still illegal and the punishments may be severe. Not really worth the risk or the cost of another ticket in comparison.

Sorry, but there is no way around this. Name on the ticket CANNOT be changed due to regulations. However, they should be able to credit the original credit card used to book the ticket. I handle travel arrangements for my company and booked everything on company credit card. I had to cancel a few tickets before and was always able to get the airline to credit the company credit card (not in the traveler’s name).

There is no way around this as the ticket is considered a legal document. a contract if you will between the passenger and the travel agent.
When it comes to refunds the refund again by law has to go via the same method back to the person who has purchased the original ticket, this is to combat fraud of credit cards, checks etc… They can however issue the credit on what is called an MPD (or sometimes known as an MCO) to be used as credit towards another flight with the company. This is can be used to purchase a ticket in any-ones name, this however has to be done at an airport ticket office and the person who the MPD is made out to has to be present with ID, to confirm they have given their permission to do this.
As some one said earlier you could check in via a kiosk and use the ticket for fraudulent purposes however this is a huge risk that i would not recommend taking.
With all the problems airports/airlines are facing with regards to bomb threats, terrorism. airport security is at an all time high and if caught you do face prosecution and even jail time.
use your common sense, sometimes we have to bite the bullet and realise things aren’t going to go the way we want them to. but that isn’t an excuse to break the law.
Hope it works out for you.
