How can I book an airline ticket is my return is over a year away?

When I attempt to book an airline ticket the return dates are not when I wish to return. My plans are to leave this december to spend my gap year in Europe working/ traveling but I’m not 100% sure of my return to Australia as in when it’ll be. How can I go about booking an airline ticket when this is the case?

you can book it one way then book another ticket from the travel agent in europe after the one year to come home

You cannot book a flight that far in advance. Book a return trip with as long a return date as possible and change it when you know when you want to return home.
